The calculation of Railway Noise (CRN) is based on the standard UK procedure which defines measurement and calculation methods for predicting railway noise impact. The method of calculating railway noise at a reception point consists of several stages. From the division of the railway into segments and calculating the Sound Exposure Level (SEL) regarding several parameters like speed, track type, number of trains passing, vehicle category, engine type etc, to several corrections like ground and air, barriers, angle of view etc. Next to the different calculation stages engineering reporting suggests methods or construction changes that possibly reduce and control the railway noise to receiver positions.
